If you would like to volunteer, contact the APS Volunteer coordinator at 919-560-0640 or volunteer@apsofdurham.org for more information. Then you may schedule an orientation session where you will complete an application, tour the shelter, and find out about volunteer opportunities. Orientations are held regularly.

Requirements:
You must be 18 years of age or older. We also have limited opportunities for 13-17 year olds and require they volunteer at all times with a parent/guardian volunteer if working directly with the animals.
We require a minimum of at least 4 hours per month and a commitment to volunteer for at least six months.
You must also be able and willing to follow the procedures we have in place both for your safety and the benefit of the animals.
We do not accept volunteers who are required to volunteer for any sort of court ordered community service requirement.

After orientation, speak with the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss your needs and goals, and to determine the most appropriate job for you. You will be then be scheduled for training sessions in your particular area of interest.

Thank you!
